Privacy policy

No cookies, no analytics, no accounts and no form submissions. What is stored in your browser, what happens if you email us, and your rights under the Australian Privacy Principles.

Silver Vista is a static website with no server-side application, no user accounts and no analytics. We do not collect personal information through this site, and we do not set cookies. This page explains what that means in practice and what limited data does exist.

Who we are

Silver Vista is an independent gardening reference published from Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Enquiries about privacy, including requests relating to information you have sent us, should go to hello@silvervistapro.com.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies of any kind. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service, we do not embed third-party scripts, fonts, maps, videos, social widgets, share buttons or advertising tags, and no third party receives information about your visit through anything we have placed on these pages. That is why there is no cookie consent banner: there is nothing to consent to.

If we ever introduce analytics or any third-party service, this page will be updated before it happens and an appropriate consent mechanism will be provided.

Data stored in your browser

Three features on this site save information locally in your browser using the browser's own local storage. Nothing saved this way is transmitted to us or to anyone else. It stays on the device you are using and is not readable by us.

  • sv_shortlist — the list of plants you have saved on the plant finder, stored as a list of plant identifiers.
  • sv_compare — the up to three plants currently in the compare tray, stored the same way.
  • sv_jobs — the jobs you have ticked on the seasonal jobs page, stored as a list of job identifiers.

None of these contain personal information. They contain identifiers for plants and garden tasks and nothing else. They persist until you remove them, either by using the clear buttons provided on each of those pages, or by clearing site data for this site in your browser settings. If local storage is disabled or unavailable in your browser, those features still work; they simply will not remember anything between visits.

The plant finder also records your current filter selections in the page address so that a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared. That information exists only in the address bar of your own browser and is not sent to us.

The contact form

The form on the contact page does not send anything. There is no server behind this site to receive a submission, and the form does not transmit data anywhere. It validates what you have typed in your browser and then asks you to copy the text into an email. Nothing you type into it is stored, logged or transmitted, and closing the page discards it.

If you email us

When you send us an email, we receive whatever you have chosen to include: your email address, your name if you give it, and the content of your message. We use it only to reply to you and, where you have reported a correction, to check and action that correction.

We keep correspondence for up to twenty-four months and then delete it, other than the substance of a correction, which we retain in our editorial records without the sender's contact details. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list — there is no mailing list — and we do not share, sell or disclose email correspondence to anyone else, except where we are required to by law.

Web server logs

This site is served by a third-party static hosting provider. Like effectively all web servers, the host generates technical access logs which may include IP addresses, request times, requested pages, referring pages and user agent strings. These are generated by the hosting infrastructure for security and operational purposes, not by anything we have added to these pages, and we do not use them to build profiles, to track individuals across sites, or for any marketing purpose. We access them only where necessary to investigate a technical or security problem.

Children

This site is a general gardening reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights under the Australian Privacy Principles

We handle any personal information you send us in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because we collect nothing through the site itself, in practice this applies only to email correspondence you have chosen to send.

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, and ask us to delete it. Write to hello@silvervistapro.com and we will respond within thirty days. There is no charge for these requests.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, please raise it with us first so we have a chance to fix it. If you remain unsatisfied, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), which is the independent regulator for privacy in Australia. Details of how to do that are published on the OAIC website.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new review date. Material changes — in particular the introduction of any analytics, cookies or third-party service — will be described plainly rather than absorbed into the text.
